Not the time to raise city council salaries

I understand that Spokane Valley City Council members are considering raising their salaries. While I know that they are putting in a great deal of time putting together the new city, I also know that everyone of them knew when they were running for office that it was going to be a time consuming and difficult job.

However, with the sagging economy and unexpected expenses, I firmly believe that this is not the time to be raising these salaries. These office holders should, in my opinion, step up to the plate and finish their jobs while collecting the same salaries they have been getting.

Perhaps this year’s federal election will spark some changes which will help jump-start the economy and help bring more income into the new city. If that does happen then that would be the time to think about a raise in salary but certainly not now.

This is not the time to break the “no new taxes” promises made by each of these officer holders when they were running for office.
