Women’s Weekend will benefit Girl Scouts
The Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council will host its annual Women’s Weekend to raise scholarship money for low-income girls who wish to participate in Girl Scouts.
The event is open to women ages 21 years and older and will be at Camp Four Echoes on Lake Coeur d’Alene Sept. 10-12.
Events include massages, swimming, yoga, canoeing, and arts and crafts.
Admission is $135 and includes meals, activities and accommodations. Reservations must be made by Sept. 8 by contacting Shawna Sampson at 747-8091, ext. 206, or by visiting www.gsiec.org.
Walk to Cure Diabetes planned
The ninth annual Walk to Cure Diabetes will be Sept. 18.
The three-mile walk along the Centennial Trail is a benefit for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Spokane Falls Community College, and the walk begins at 9.
More than 1 million Americans have Type 1 diabetes that most often is diagnosed in childhood and lasts a lifetime. The disease carries the threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and amputation.
Individuals or teams are asked to raise pledges and may begin by visiting www.jdrf.org or calling 459-6307.
