Playhouse presenting ‘Christmas Carol’

In a theater season filled with Scrooge-related spoofs and spinoffs, the Lake City Playhouse in Coeur d’Alene is providing the straight stuff: a faithful stage version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

This one-act, family-friendly adaptation by Cora Wilson Greenwood features Chris LeBlanc as Scrooge, John Coppernoll as Bob Cratchit and Jacob Cozzens and Harry Bashaw double-cast as Tiny Tim. Jordan Ferraro, Jana Siebrecht and Al Metz round out the cast. Noel Barbuto directs.

The cast will sing a cappella carols at the end and the audience can join in if they wish.

“A Christmas Carol” opens Friday and continues through Dec. 19. Curtain times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 7 p.m. on Thursdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, $8 for children (kids can color a Christmas sheet and get half off). Thursdays are discounted. For ticket information call (208) 667-1323.

‘The Santaland Diaries’

Spokane actor Bil Childress will present a one-man show, “The Santaland Diaries,” in three performances at The Met.

“The Santaland Diaries,” based on one of the stories in David Sedaris’ book “Holidays On Ice,” chronicles the author’s stint as a Macy’s elf one Christmas in Manhattan.

“It’s a full production, with sets and costumes,” said Childress, who is producing the show as well as appearing in it.

It will run Sunday at 3 p.m., and Dec. 11 at 3 and 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 ($25 for a couple), through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).
