Titans dial long distance to turn away Bullpups

The Spokesman-Review

A barrage of 3-pointers ignited a 17-0 third-quarter run, and the University Titans went on to defeat host Gonzaga Prep 58-50 in a non-league basketball game Tuesday night.

The Bullpups (2-2) led 21-20 early in the third quarter following a Travis Walker basket. But six consecutive points by Inderbir Gill, who finished with 15, and six more by Kyle Olson, who finished with 12 (on four 3-point shots), gave the Titans (1-2) breathing room.

Calvin Jurich added 15 points (12 in the first half) and seven rebounds for U-Hi. Junior Michael Johnson led all scorers with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Ian Parry, a 6-foot-5 junior, added nine points and nine rebounds for the Pups.

In other non-league action between Greater Spokane League teams:

Ferris 56, Shadle Park 54

Caleb Rath’s basket as time ran down allowed the host Saxons to stay undefeated (3-0) and to hold off a furious fourth-quarter Highlanders rally.

Ferris led by 10 entering the final quarter, but Shadle (0-3) scored 24 points to tie it down the stretch. Junior Josh Landsverk had his way inside for Shadle with 17 points, while freshman Zach Humphrey hit three 3-pointers en route to 11 points. Jeremy Templeton and Ryan Shelby combined for 27 points for the Saxons.

West Valley 73, North Central 67

Damal Neil and Nathan Hood combined for 28 points for the Indians (2-1). NC struggled behind the arc, hitting 4 of 16. West Valley was 6 of 14 from long range, including 3 of 6 from Greg Bradley, who finished with 13 points.

Lewis and Clark 41, Mt. Spokane 36

The host Tigers (2-1) rallied in the fourth quarter behind TJ Lee-Hill, who finished with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists. Mt. Spokane led 26-23 entering the final quarter. Matt Dorr led the Wildcats (0-2) and all scorers with 14 points.
