Memorial will return

The Spokesman-Review

I am responding to Sandra Babcock’s Nov. 18 article on makeshift memorials.

I wonder when it will end, too. For me it will end when I die, for I have been impacted by the need to maintain a roadside memorial.

I have done all your suggestions to help put grief behind me. The pain never lessens.

On Feb. 18, a drunken driver killed my son, Ian. Our seemly innocent 12th and Pines intersection was deadly. A Department of Transportation memorial sign was erected as a message for passers-by.

Someone didn’t care for Ian’s cross and wanted the little trinkets that decorated it. It took almost four years before it was vandalized.

His cross will be back because he will not be forgotten nor will the way he was killed be forgotten.

Think again when you pass the roadside memorials. They are there for those gone, we who hold the pain and for you to witness.
