Spartans outlast Wildcats

Priest River may not do windows, but the Spartans cleaned the glass against visiting Kellogg in the Intermountain League girls basketball opener Saturday at Priest River.

The home team took a decisive 27-13 advantage on the boards to tame the Wildcats, 56-47.

Rachel Schlecht scored 15 points, grabbed eight boards, dished off four assists and made a pair of steals to lead the Spartans.

Kellogg got 10 points from Jamie Brower.

Bonners Ferry 52, St. Maries 32: Becky Lowther and Shantel Schirado each scored 10 points to lead the Badgers at home. Katie Poston added eight points and 11 rebounds and Jennifer Youngwirth dished off five assists.

North Star League

Lakeside routs PFC

Lakeside had things its own way, rolling over Post Falls Christian, 60-22, in a North Star League game at Plummer. Wynonna Johnson’s 20 points and eight rebounds paced the Knights, with Corrina Hendrickx adding 14 points, five steals and six rebounds.

Non-league

Big run sparks Wallace

Wallace went on a 23-9 run through the fourth quarter to spank visiting Timberlake, 67-37. Krista Williams paced the Miners with 23 points, with Lisa Carver adding 18 points and Cara Hayman 10 points and seven assists. Lynsie Powers scored a dozen points to lead the Tigers.

Washington girls

Pullman upends Freeman

Pullman scored a 60-44 non-league win over visiting Freeman as the Greyhounds raced to a 30-13 lead at halftime. Jamie Thornton led all scorers with 14 points and grabbed six rebounds for Pullman, with Katie Hinrichs adding 11 points and Kelli Davis eight points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Jessie DePell tossed in 10 points to lead the Scotties. … Medical Lake 64, LaCrosse-Washtucna 62: Medical Lake came from behind in the fourth quarter to nip the visiting Tigercats. Colleen Constantine scored six of her career-high 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Cardinals, scoring a four-point play to put Medical Lake up by five points in the decisive final period.

Hornets sting Tigers

Chelsie Pakootas tossed in 14 points to lead Inchelium to a Panorama League road victory at Republic, 55-45. Melissa Dick added 12 points for the Hornets and Randi Beck paced Republic with 10. … Curlew 75, Columbia 75: Nicole Miller’s 14 points and 14 rebounds powered the Cougars at home. Amanda Grumback matched Miller’s 14 boards and added another 13 points for Curlew. … Selkirk 46, Springdale 42: Jamie O’Donnell scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to power the Rangers to a homecourt victory. Kelly Scherf added 10 rebounds, seven points and a pair of blocks.
