St. Mark’s Lutheran to host service in German, English

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is hosting the German-American Society’s annual Christmas service on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The service, in both German and English, will feature the Concordia Choir singing German Christmas carols.

All faiths are welcome, and coffee and cookies will be served afterward at the Deutsches Haus, 25 W. Third Ave.

Blue Christmas service

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., is presenting a Blue Christmas service at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Christmas can be a very stressful, painful or lonely time of year for many people, and this service, which takes place on the shortest day of the year, will offer healing, peace and hope. No merry Christmas carols will be sung, but there will be hopeful words, songs and healing music.

Lessons and Carols service

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is presenting the Festival of Lessons and Carols Sunday at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

This service was instituted by Archbishop of Canterbury Edward White Benson in the late 19th century and is based on the medieval Christmas Eve Vigil Service. The church will follow the traditional format of the service.

New chief organist

Manito Presbyterian Church, 401 E. 30th Ave., is celebrating a new organist and interim choir director on Sunday during its 11 a.m. worship service.

John Bodinger, who recently moved to Spokane with his family from Rochester, N.Y., will direct the Christmas cantata, “Emmanuel” by Eugene Butler. Bodinger holds a graduate degree in organ performance from the Eastman School of Music.

Christmas concert

Covenant United Methodist Church, 15515 N. Gleneden Drive, is hosting pianist Brad Greene for a Christmas concert, “A Year to Remember,” at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Greene will play contemporary arrangements of traditional Christmas favorites.

Admission is free, but donations will be taken at the door.

Youth bazaar

North Hill Christian Church, 4620 N. Post St., is hosting a youth craft bazaar on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The bazaar will feature handmade crafts for the holidays, treats, decorations, blankets and scarves.

The proceeds will benefit the church’s youth fund.

The monthly meeting of the Christian Singles Fellowship will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St.

The meeting is the group’s annual potluck and Christmas celebration.
