Burglars take cash register from GameQuest

A pair of burglars stole a cash register with very little money inside Wednesday.

Officers were called to GameQuest, 25 S. Pines Road, about 4 a.m. Wednesday. A nearby business owner saw two men leave the closed business, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department.

Officer Rob King found the front door had been kicked in and the cash register was missing, police said.

Security video showed a white male had kicked in the door and disconnected one of the cameras. The second suspect tried to break the cash register by smashing it on the floor. When they couldn’t break it open, they left with the entire machine, according to police.

The machine was worth approximately $200, but there was very little money inside, said owner Victor Warren.

The pair was seen driving away in a maroon Nissan Stanza four-door.

Man arrested on indecent exposure charge

An Otis Orchards man was arrested Monday for allegedly exposing himself.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Hert went to the Centennial Trailhead parking lot near the Idaho State Line. An Avista employee told Hert he’d been eating lunch when a man pulled up next to him and propositioned him, according to a press release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. The man allegedly exposed himself during the incident.

The man was identified by police as Donald H. Hodge, 62, of Otis Orchards. Hodge was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and was booked into the Spokane County Jail, according to police.

Woman arrested on drug charges

Spokane Valley Police arrested a 35-year-old Idaho woman Monday on a drug charge.

Sgt. Jim Gladden checked a vehicle’s registration Monday about 2:45 a.m. as he was driving near Broadway Avenue and Sullivan Road. The car had an expired license plate, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department.

Gladden stopped the car and identified the driver as Victoria M. Proctor of Coeur d’Alene. Proctor’s license was suspended. Gladden searched the car and found small amounts of marijuana and methamphetamine and prescription medication, police said.

Proctor was booked into the Spokane County Jail on suspicion of felony drug possession for the methamphetamine and Vicodin, police said. Other misdemeanor charges for possessing marijuana and driving with a suspended license are also possible, police said.

Safe stolen from EV Junior High office

A burglar broke into a school office and stole a safe last weekend.

The theft at East Valley Junior High School happened between 10 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. It did not appear that any doors had been forced open or windows broken, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department.

The thief stole a small safe that contained some cash and a school credit card. The thief also took an office chair, police said.

The school hosted basketball games over the weekend, but officials didn’t know if someone at the games broke into the office. A janitor went to the school after a burglary alarm went off at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, but found no open windows or doors, police said.

Man charged with assault after shooting friend

A man was shot in the leg by a friend Friday.

Two 21-year-old friends were playing video games and watching television at a house on East Lenora Avenue after playing pool at Bolo’s. About 9:30 p.m., Jason E. Riggs-Erickson took out his semi-automatic pistol. Riggs-Erickson apparently wanted to show the gun to the friend, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department.

The gun fired and the friend was hit in the thigh, according to police. The man needed surgery, police said, but the injury was not life-threatening.

Riggs-Erickson was charged with suspicion of felony third-degree assault and was booked into the Spokane County Jail.

Sliding Jeep totals patrol car

A patrol car was totaled on an icy road Thursday.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office deputy was parked on the side of East Palouse Highway about 7:25 a.m. Deputy Kevin Nave was helping a motorist who had slid off the icy road into a ditch, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.

A 1989 Jeep Cherokee began sliding toward them and crashed into the back of the patrol car. No one was injured in the crash.

A second deputy, Phil Shatzer, investigated the collision. The Jeep’s driver, Danielle D. Hilde, 16, of Valleyford, was given a ticket for driving too fast for conditions, according to the press release.

Wheels, tires taken off vehicle at shop

Custom wheels and tires were stolen from a car parked at a Spokane Valley automotive shop.

A thief stole wheels and tires from a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix at the Opportunity Body Shop, 106 N. Bowdish Road. The theft occurred sometime between 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department. The wheels were worth more than $500 each, police said.

The suspects damaged the Pontiac in the process of stealing the tires, police said. Officer Chan Erdman collected evidence left at the scene to check for fingerprints, according to the press release.
