Treats and more at new dog store

A new store that opened near the University City Mall in August is a doggie delight.

Mutts of all shapes and sizes will find something to like at A Tail Wagger’s Dream, owned by Lisa Coe. It all started with homemade dog treats.

“I was selling treats at craft shows,” said Coe. “I just decided I wanted to have a place to sell them rather than traveling around in the shows.”

She had been doing craft shows for two years before taking the plunge with a remodeled house at 419 S. University Road. Almost everything in the store is designed for man’s best friend. “I do have some cat items,” Coe said. “I have horse treats, too.”

Coe sells her treats as well as gift items, leashes, pet bowls and gift baskets. She also takes pet photographs that can be made into calendars. All animals are welcome for photos. “Anything but snakes,” she said.

Business has been going so well than Coe is planning to expand after the first of the year. “We’re just going to be knocking out some walls and expanding into the other rooms. It’s getting kind of small in there right now.”

With the new space Coe will expand her current offerings as well as adding pet beds, clothing and pet carriers.

Coe, who is from the Valley, deliberately looked for a spot in her home area. “It’s a pretty good location, a lot of drive-by traffic.”

Coe has one part-time employee. Holiday business hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
