Dijon Thompson scored a career-high 29 points and hit a 3-pointer that gave UCLA the lead for good with 44 seconds remaining as the Bruins defeated Michigan 81-79 Saturday in Los Angeles.

The Bruins (6-1) rallied from a six-point deficit in the final 3:46 after leading most of the way. Freshman Jordan Farmar scored six points in that stretch – all on free throws – including two when the Bruins clung to a one-point lead.

Chris Hunter scored 21 points to lead the Wolverines (6-5). Courtney Sims and Dion Harris added 17 points each and Ron Coleman had 13 points and five assists.

Michigan trailed by four points when the Wolverines went on a 14-4 run to take a 75-69 lead with 3:51 remaining. Sims had seven points in the spurt that gave Michigan its largest lead of the game.

(15) Arizona 48, Marquette 43

With leading scorer Salim Stoudamire benched, the Wildcats (7-2) relied on Chris Rodgers’ 16 points and key late layup to beat the Golden Eagles (9-1) in Milwaukee, despite the Wildcats’ lowest scoring output in nearly 20 years.

Arizona coach Lute Olson didn’t say why he sidelined Stoudamire. The player was coming off a career-low one field-goal attempt in a 67-62 win over Utah last week, just Stoudamire’s third scoreless game in 101 at Arizona.

Neither team scored much Saturday, combining for only three field goals over the last nine minutes. Arizona hadn’t been held to so few points since a 50-41 loss to Alabama in the 1985 NCAA tournament.

Stanford 72, UC Davis 62

Dan Grunfeld scored 18 points, and the Cardinal (4-4) ushered in a new era in its renovated home arena with a win over the Aggies (3-5).

Rob Little added 14 points and six rebounds and Matt Haryasz had 12 points, nine boards and two blocks for the Cardinal, who played their first game in Maples Pavilion following a $30 million, 10-month facelift.

Fowzi Abdelsamad led UC Davis with 22 points, but the Aggies allowed Stanford to shoot a season-best 63.3 percent from the floor.

Oregon St. 90, Boise St. 79

Chris Stephens scored 21 points and Nick DeWitz added 17 points to lead the Beavers (6-3) past the Broncos (5-4) in Boise.

Oregon State never trailed after the score was tied at 17 with 9:34 left in the first half and led Boise State by as many as 16 early in the second half.

Stephens was 6 for 9 from the field, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range and went 6 for 6 from the line. Sasa Cuic scored 15 and Jason Fontenet added 14 points for the Beavers.

The Broncos were led by Jermaine Blackburn with 22 points.

Oregon 83, Fresno State 82

Bryce Taylor grabbed an offensive rebound and banked in an off-balance jumper with 0.8 seconds remaining, giving the Ducks (6-1) a victory over the Bulldogs (6-1) in Fresno, Calif.

Aaron Brooks scored 16 points for the Ducks, while backcourt mate Taylor added 15 on 7-of-9 shooting.

Ja’Vance Coleman scored a game-high 23 points for Fresno State.

The Bulldogs trailed the entire second half until two free throws by Donovan Morris put them ahead 82-81 with 16.2 seconds remaining.

Oregon rushed the ball upcourt, using three seconds before calling time out. Ian Crosswhite missed an 18-foot jumper with about 2.5 seconds left, but the ball bounced right to Taylor in the lane. Taylor banked in a 10-footer.

Southern Cal 81, Western Michigan 74

Guard Lodrick Stewart scored 21 points, 15 of them in the first half, and forward Gregg Guenther added a career-high 20 points as the Trojans (4-3) ended the six-game winning streak of the visiting Broncos (6-3).

Southern Cal (4-3) never trailed. The Trojans opened a 35-18 lead late in the first half, capitalizing on a 14-2 run in which Stewart had a pair of 3-point baskets.
