North Central wins tourney, posts 7-0 mark

Ashlee Michelson scored 19 points Thursday as North Central won the championship of the Blackhawk Basketball Tournament with a 58-36 win over host Cheney.

Alie Hansen added 12 points for the Indians (7-0).

NC ran off to a 31-16 lead at intermission and cruised in the second half.

Colville 51, Rogers 31: It took seven games, but the Indians finally got their first win of the season, upending the Pirates in the consolation round of the Blackhawk Tournament in Cheney. Beth Johnson pumped in 24 points and Raylynn Martin added another 13 to lead Colville. … Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls 59, West Valley 31: The visiting Eagles from the Great Northern League built a 34-11 halftime lead over the Eagles from the Greater Spokane League and cruised to the win. It was a Tiffany performance for Lakeside (7-1): Tiffany Corigliano scored 14 points and Tiffany Thain added another 13 points. … Mt. Spokane 54, Kennedy 47: Mt. Spokane earned its first tournament championship in the program’s history, downing the Lancers to win the Shirts and Skins Tournament at Seattle Christian. Katelan Redmon and Emily Wittkopf combined for 30 points to lead the Wildcats (6-1). Redmon added three steals, four assists and nine rebounds. Wittkopf added five rebounds and four steals. Redmon, Leah Pomante and Charlee Jackson each were named to the all-tournament team. … Chewelah 67, Wapato 42: Chewelah (6-1) built a 37-19 lead at intermission and cruised to the victory at the SunDome Shootout in Yakima. Nikki Nelson scored 18 points and Jochelle Schatz added 13 for the Cougars. … Colfax 59, Naches Valley 30: The Bulldogs (5-4) thrive in the friendly confines of Yakima’s SunDome Shootout. Colfax rebounded from a loss to East Valley-Yakima on Wednesday to flatten Naches Valley behind the 12 points of Katie Burns and 10-point performances by Jordan Harazin and Angie Dennison. … Cusick 68, Inchelium 55: The Panthers (8-1) clawed to the Lakeside Tournament championship at Plummer behind the 26 points and 18 rebounds of Cara Shepherd. Inchelium (6-3) got 14 points from Chelsi Pakootas, 12 from Steven Carson, and 10 each from sisters Melissa and Leah Dick. … St. John-Endicott 34, Lind-Ritzville 26: The Eagles (7-2) built a 19-11 lead at halftime and held on for the victory at Ritzville. Sydney Gossard scored nine points to lead SJE. Jenna Kragt led the Broncos with seven rebounds. … Republic 56, Oroville 40: The Tigers raced out to a 26-9 lead at intermission and cruised to the victory – collecting 22 steals en route. Randi Beck led Republic with 11 points. Tigers Dani Gubler and Melissa Whitney each added 10 points.

Blackhawks win their tourney

Cheney shot 54 percent for the field to down Rogers 59-50 and win the Blackhawk Tournament championship at Cheney. Derek Miller pumped in 21 points, going 8 for 8 from the free-throw line, to lead the Blackhawks (4-3). Cheney’s Ben Camp added 13 points and seven rebounds. Scotty Livengood led Rogers in scoring 19 points.

Pullman 67, Colville 43: The Greyhounds (4-3) ran down their Great Northern League rivals, building a 40-28 lead at halftime and cruising to the consolation-round win in the Blackhawk Tournament at Cheney. Pullman shot 50 percent from the floor (27 for 54) and hit 16 of 28 shots in the first half. George Turner scored 14 points and Justin Cooper added 13 to lead Pullman, which got 46 points off its bench. … Mt. Spokane 46, Lakes 40: The Wildcats (3-4) went on a 21-7 run in the second quarter at Seattle Christian to earn the win the consolation game of the Shirts and Skins Tournament. Matt Dorr scored 20 points, including all nine of his team’s fourth-quarter points, to lead Mt. Spokane. … West Valley 68, Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls 49: West Valley (7-0) built a 14-point lead in the first half and cruised to the non-league win over the visiting Eagles. E.J. Richardson scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead WV. Rashad Toussaint added 12 points, four assists and seven steals. Lakeside (4-4) got 14 points from Garrett Perkins and 11 from Logan Erickson. … Moscow 69, North Central 64: The Bears roared back in the fourth quarter, overcoming a 15-point deficit at Moscow to earn the non-league victory. Jake Lefors scored 21 points, connecting on 15 of 20 free throws, to lead Moscow (8-0). NC (3-4), got 19 points from Eric Beal, but none in the fourth quarter because of foul trouble. … Selkirk 59, Priest River 57: The Rangers (5-5) overcame a six-point halftime deficit with a 21-10 run in the third quarter and held off a late rally from the visiting Spartans at Ione. Clint March scored 13 points, Travis Zimmerman 11 and Mikki Cromwell 10 to lead Selkirk. … Naches Valley 56, Colfax 41: Colfax connected on just 18 of 52 shots (34 percent) to drop its final game at the SunDome Shootout in Yakima. After playing to a 21-all tie at intermission, the Bulldogs were on the short end of a 15-6 run in the third quarter. Erik Wick had 12 points and Brian Danaher 10 for Colfax. … Republic 86, Oroville 60: The Tigers pulled away steadily on their home court. Brothers Zach and Derek Gianukakis each poured in 23 points for Republic, bouncing back from a loss at Brewster that snapped a 32-game win streak. … Lind-Ritzville 67, St. John-Endicott 44: The Broncos hit seven of their first eight shots and raced to a 40-11 lead at intermission. SJE had six first-quarter turnovers and connected on 1 of 8 field-goal attempts in the first period.

Oroville, Lakeside triumph

Oroville walked away with the Freeman Invitational championship, scoring 231 points to easily outdistance Chewelah, which was second with 154.5. The host Scotties got an individual championship from Danny Matthews at 112 pounds. … Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls won the Rock Island Championships on Vashon Island, scoring 202 points to edge Mt. Baker, second with 181. The Eagles crowned four individual champions.
