Secret Witness asked to call again

Spokane Police detectives are asking the person who provided a Secret Witness tip regarding a May 25 shooting on the North Side to call back with more information.

Police said the caller used a female name as an identification code.

The incident occurred about 10 p.m. when someone drove by a residence on the 200 block of West Nora and fired a number of gunshots. Several bullets hit the house, but no one was hit.

The caller provided some information, but the detective is asking the tipster for another call to Secret Witness at 327-5111. The person should use the same code name and leave a contact number.

Secret Witness is a civilian organization that pays cash tips that lead to solutions of crimes. Secret Witness is offering a $500 reward for information that helps solve the crime.

Information sought on suspected gunman

Secret Witness is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man facing charges for a Sunday morning shooting that wounded two apparent strangers.

Spokane Police call Bryan M. James, 24, “a known gang member,” and say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The victims told police they were walking in the area of Crestline and Marietta about 3:15 a.m. Sunday. They said that a car passed them, then went around the block and pulled up nearby.

The driver fired several shots from a handgun, past a young woman in the passenger’s seat, through the open window, hitting both men. He then drove away. The victims say they do not know the shooter, whom police believe is James.

One of the men was shot in both legs; the other in the torso. Both required surgery.

Bryan James is black, 5 feet 7, 135 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is facing two charges of attempted first-degree murder.

Anyone with information is asked to call Secret Witness at 327-5111. Callers are asked to use a code name or number, and do not have to give their own name to be eligible for the reward.

James has four convictions as an adult. They include assault, delivery of drugs and possession of stolen property, police spokesman Dick Cottam said in a press release.

Van rollover injures three on Hatch Road

Troopers and firefighters responded to a one-car rollover Saturday afternoon. Three people were transported to Deaconess Medical Center.

The Washington State Patrol and Spokane County Fire District 4 responded to the call at 4:55 p.m. on Hatch Road and Highway 395. A Spokane Fire Department spokesman said the accident happened when the driver of a van drove overcompensated and drove off the right shoulder.

Two adults and two minors were involved. No names were released.
