For many older Americans, retirement is not an option. Sometimes they can’t afford it, but other times they remain in the work force for personal reasons — they find employment critical to their mental well-being.

The increase in older workers coincides with a shift in employers’ attitudes. With a looming shortage of workers, and the perception that seniors are more reliable, corporate America is hiring.
