Planned Parenthood benefit July 22

Garden Party Gala, a benefit for Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest, will be July 22 at Beacon Hill Events, 4848 E. Wellesley Ave.

Held from 6 to 10 p.m., the event will include live jazz music by the Mark Norton Trio with Charlotte Carruthers as well as a silent auction.

Guest speakers include Alexander Sanger, grandson of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger.

Hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer will be available.

Tickets are $50 per person. Reservations must be made by July 12.

Golf event

The first Golf Invitational Scramble for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will be at Highland Golf Course in Post Falls.

Proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes.

Cost to participate in the scramble, to be held July 23, is $75 per person, which includes 18-holes, golf cart and lunch.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.; tee-time is 7:30 a.m.

A silent auction will be held after lunch.

Horse raffle

The Appaloosa Museum and Heritage Center Foundation, Moscow, Idaho, in affiliation with the Appaloosa Horse Club, Moscow, will raffle off a two-year-old registered Appaloosa filly.

Entries are $5 each, or $20 for five.

Proceeds will benefit the museum’s operating expenses as well as provide a fellowship for a student at both Washington State University and the University of Idaho.

The filly, named E Arrow Saber, was donated by Dennis and Patricia Smith of E Arrow Acres, Medical Lake. The winner is responsible for transportation costs.

Book sale

Thousands of books will be available for purchase at the annual Friends of Whitman County Library Book Sale on Thursday.

Held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the Colfax, Wash., branch library, 102 S. Main, the sale will benefit summer reading programs, newborn packets for the local hospital, a booth at the Palouse Empire Fair, February’s Family Fair at Pullman, and various other children’s programs and library projects in Whitman County.

The sale will continue throughout Colfax’s Concrete River Days celebration on Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
