Aerosmith offers something new

A Friday night in early June. No surprise that there isn’t much on tonight, folks. I strongly advise you to flip over to the movie ads and head out to the multiplex.

But if you’re staying in – and I appreciate your loyalty – you might want to dial up A&E at 9 for “Aerosmith In Concert: You Gotta Move.”

Truth be told, there’s a bit of geographic chauvinism involved.

These rock ‘n’ roll bad boys are from Boston, and around here we’re waiting to find out if they’ll be able to make good on their plan to join the Boston Pops for its annual July 4 extravaganza by the Charles River. That’d be cool. And it’d be nationally televised.

In the meantime, you’ll have to make do with this two-hour special, featuring the band on stage and in the studio recording their new album, the greasy blues tribute “Honkin’ on Bobo.”

Highlights

“George Lopez,” ABC at 8: Repeat. George’s father wants to make it right.

“Joan of Arcadia,” CBS at 8: Repeat with a debate team debate; one of them stutters.

“Dateline,” NBC at 8: Two full hours.

“Reba,” WB at 8: Kyra is acting out at Brock’s. Repeat.

“Married to the Kellys,” ABC at 8:30: Repeat. Tom sets up Lewis with a date.

“What I Like About You,” WB at 8:30: Trouble over plans for Gary’s birthday. Repeat.

“Hope & Faith,” ABC at 9: Repeat featuring that old sitcom standby, jury duty!

“JAG,” CBS at 9: Repeat. Baseball hurler Barry Zito guests as a Navy pitcher who’s charged after beaning an opponent.

“Grounded for Life,” WB at 9: Back-to-back repeats.

In the first, Claudia’s been out all night partying while Sean thought she was studying. In the second, Sean forgets an important message for Claudia from her professor. Isn’t higher education wonderful?

“Life with Bonnie,” ABC at 9:30: The Smothers Brothers are Bonnie’s contractors. Think the job will be done on time? Repeat.

“48 Hours,” CBS at 10.

“Las Vegas,” NBC at 10: Repeat turns on a con artist’s scam and tickets to see Wayne Newton.

Family Fare

“Cats & Dogs” (2001), Fox at 8: Jeff Goldblum stars, and Alec Baldwin is among the many celeb voices in this so-so adventure about a global power struggle of which humans remain blissfully ignorant.

Cable Cast

Baseball, ESPN at 5: Houston Astros at St. Louis Cardinals.

“Manhunter” (1986), AMC at 8: William Petersen is the FBI profiler, and Brian Cox is Hannibal Lecter in this first – and perhaps superior – version of the “Red Dragon” tale. Michael Mann directed, and the cast also includes Dennis Farina, Joan Allen, Stephen Lang and Tom Noonan.
