Andy Robertson earns Eagle Scout Award

East Valley High School senior Andy Robertson, 18, recently earned his Eagle Scout badge, the highest Boy Scout award.

Each Eagle Scout is required to complete a community service project. For his project, Robertson removed and replaced three weather- damaged fire pits in the camping area at Liberty Lake State Park.

Robertson has been a member of Troop 481 at Peace Lutheran Church for seven years. He plans to continue in the troop as an adult leader. Robertson also plans to study architecture at Washington State University in the fall.

Golf club awards scholarship

The Liberty Lake/Meadowwood Men’s Golf Club has announced the recipient of this year’s $1,000 college scholarship. Jesse Lehman of East Valley High School reportedly plans to use his scholarship to enroll in the pharmacy program at Washington State University in the fall.

Lehman earned a 4.0 grade-point average and was named valedictorian of his graduating class. During his high school years he also was a varsity athlete and involved in student government.

Kiwanis names award winners

The Spokane Valley Kiwanis Club has handed out $5,000 to four local high school graduates. Trenton Murphey, Central Valley High School, received $2,000. Murphey volunteered in the community extensively by coaching youth sports and helping with food drives and cemetery cleanup. Erin Stearns, University High School, received $1,000. She volunteered in her church’s nursery, started a children’s fun run and served meals at homeless shelters. She also was a junior volunteer at Valley Hospital and Medical Center and was a member of the marching band.

Suzanne Almeida of University High School also received $1,000. She served as senior class treasurer and was involved in debate and drama. She also has been a longtime volunteer with Valley Meals on Wheels and the Valley Community Center.

Derek Taylor of Central Valley High School, received $1,000. He was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper and a member of the debate club. He volunteered with Valleyfest and Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

Dance student touring U.S.

Longtime Dance Emporium student Nicole Lovinger will spend this summer performing in an eight-city U.S. tour as part of the Dance Olympus tour. She was one of 31 young dancers from around the nation selected from the more than 500 who auditioned. While on tour she will perform, teach workshops and take classes from professional dancers.

Lovinger, a senior at University High School, has been studying everything from hip hop to ballet at Dance Emporium for the past 13 years. She plans to study dance education at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, this fall.

CV graduate gets national award

Allison Anglesey, a 2002 Central Valley High School graduate, has been named a National Collegiate Award winner in physical education. Anglesey, who will be a junior at the University of Idaho in the fall, will appear in the U.S. Achievement Academy Official Collegiate Yearbook. The academy recognizes less than 10 percent of American college students each year.

Anglesey was nominated by one of her professors. She is the daughter of Roger and Marcia Anglesey.
