Christian Singles hosting barbecue in Liberty Lake

Steve Christilaw Correspondent

You’ve reached your 30s and you find yourself single. You’re a Christian and want to meet other singles like yourself, but your church offers no such group.

What do you do?

You join a group like Christian Singles Fellowship or North Idaho Christian Fellowship, both interdenominational groups for people just like you.

“We tend to be a little older than other kinds of singles groups,” said Marge Ackerly. “Christian Singles Fellowship has members in their mid-30s up to their 60s.

“But we’re not a dating singles group. We get together for Christian fellowship. We have members who do date, and we’ve even had some marriages, but that’s not what we get together for.”

The group, together with North Idaho Christian Fellowship, will hold their annual all-day picnic today at Liberty Lake County Park.

The event, which costs $7 without prior registration, $5 for kids under 12, kicks off at 9 a.m. and runs until 8 p.m.

A lunch will be served and activities include swimming, biking, horseshoes, hiking and volleyball.

Christian Singles Fellowship has been active in Spokane for 11 years, Ackerly said, and it fills a void in many area churches.

“There are a few church singles groups that will be there, but not all churches have one,” she said. “We fill that void.

“And neither Christian Singles Fellowship nor North Idaho Christian Fellowship are affiliated with any one church.”

Both groups stay active throughout the year. The Spokane group holds several large events every year.

“This picnic is one of the bigger things we do,” Ackerly said. “For example, on Valentine’s Day we have a banquet. At the picnic we get about 100 people; at the banquet we get about 300.”

Anyone interested can find plenty of information about the various groups and check out the membership today.
