State wrestling suffers big loss

The Spokesman-Review

This is being written to express my deep concern that Central Washington University has terminated its wrestling program. With this decision, there are no collegiate wrestling programs offered in our state. This situation has slammed the door in the face of any wrestler who wants to continue the sport to the next level in this state.

This is not just too bad or unfortunate, it is outrageous.

We pride ourselves in the quality of our student athletes and are especially pleased when they choose to compete in our state. How can we justify forcing our wrestlers to leave Washington to pursue their dream of collegiate wrestling?

I urge our public universities to once again provide the opportunity for our wrestlers to compete in their own state.
