Snow sport activities show up on calendar

Skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling are shushing past hiking and paddling in the priorities of Inland Northwest outdoor lovers. The trend is as obvious from the activities in town as it is from the snow in the mountains.

Following are some of the many snow-related events and activities coming up this month.

Today: “Soul Purpose,” a Teton Gravity Research ski and snowboard action film, 8 p.m. at The Met as a benefit for the Mount Spokane Ski Patrol. Call 328-SEAT.

Saturday: Silver Mountain Ski Patrol Winter Gear Swap, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Kootenai County Fairgrounds in Coeur d’Alene. Entry: $3, kids under 13 free with parents.

Saturday: 49 Degrees North Ski Patrol Ski Swap, 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Stevens County Fairgrounds in Colville.

Saturday-Sunday: Cross-country ski swap and sale, Fitness Fanatics, 12425 E. Trent. Info: 922-6080.

Nov. 11: Ski Tune-Up Class, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Mountain Gear. Cost: $14. Pre-register by Nov. 8 through Spokane Parks and Recreation, 625-6200.

Nov. 13: Spokane Winter Knights Snowmobile Club 24th annual Snow Show, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Spokane County Fair and Expo Center, featuring snowmobile dealers, used sleds, information on trails, resorts and destinations. Cost: $5.

Nov. 14: Snow Show, featuring area ski resort information and season pass photo sessions plus vendors, seminars and demonstrations and appearance by Olympic moguls silver medalist Shannon Bahrke, 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at Spokane Convention Center. Cost: $5, children under 10 free.

Nov. 14: Warren Miller’s “Impact,” the action skiing filmmaker’s latest, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., Spokane Opera House.

Nov. 17: Kids cross-country ski package trade-in program night at Mountain Gear, 2002 N. Division. Info: 325-9000.
