1A/B Girls, 10:30 a.m.

Last year’s champion: King’s.

Outlook: With King’s gone, St. George’s, Zillah and Cedar Park Christian appear to be this year’s favorites.

Top individuals: Odessa’s Kysa Cronrath is defending state champion, but coming off injury. Jenny Knezovich (Reardan), Jane Larson (Cedar Park) and Chelsea Schilter (Toutle Lake) are other top returnees, but Liberty Bell freshman Sadie Bjornsen could win it all.

2A Girls, 11 a.m.

Last year’s champion: East Valley-Yakima.

Outlook: New 2A school Kings, last year’s 1A/B champion, will chase East Valley for the title. GNL team Lakeside can challenge for a trophy.

Top individuals: Brittney Sanchez of Grandview, fourth in 3A last year, Katie Campbell (Lakeside) and Allison Gibson (East Valley) are among the many who could chase a title.

3A Girls, 11:30 a.m.

Last year’s champion: Squalicum.

Outlook: Squalicum, West Valley-Yakima and Newport-Bellevue remain favorites. Hoping to trophy, North Central’s girls had five scorers among the region’s top 13 3A racers to return to state as a team for the first time since their title winning 2001 season.

Top individuals: Bevin Peters (Holy Names Academy), Michelle Schubert and Chelsey VanDeBrake (both WV-Yakima), Jolene Boogaard (Kelso) and Kat Ellis (Columbia River) are highest returning runners, but Kelsey Walker (Bellevue) had impressive district time and East Valley-Spokane’s Jo E. Mayer is a contender.

4A Girls, noon

Last year’s champion: Snohomish.

Outlook: Top two finishers Snohomish and Bellarmine Prep look formidable again. Lewis and Clark, easily the regional champions thanks to a tight pack, will try and intrude.

Top individuals: Brie Felnagle of Bellarmine Prep is defending champion and will square off with Rogers’ Becca Noble in a race between the state’s combined distance/sprint stars. A host of Snohomish runners, including Amanda Stopa and Alyssa Modrell, are other top returnees. Third place Megan O’Relly of Mt. Spokane is out with stress fractures.
