Man fined for moving markers

KETCHUM, Idaho – A Ketchum man has been fined $1,500 and placed on probation for illegally removing U.S. Forest Service boundary markers near his property.

A statement released Friday by the U.S. Attorney District of Idaho said Monty Straley removed the markers that separated his property from Sawtooth National Forest land.

In 2003, crews conducted surveys in the Ketchum area and placed markers to distinguish the line between Straley’s private property and public lands.

Straley removed the fiberglass posts and threatened to remove other markers if the originals were replaced, the statement said.
