Vandals paint two schools

Students, staff and parents were greeted Monday morning as they arrived at Mountain View Middle School by a reader board painted with a four-letter word.

The East Valley school was vandalized for the second weekend in a row. Vandals used a brush to paint obscene words all over the building’s windows, and the reader board, Principal Jim McAdam said. The same thing happened the weekend of Nov. 6, only the vandals used spray paint.

“Most all of it was removed before the kids saw it,” McAdam said. “Except for the reader board, that greeted everybody as they came to work.”

Nearby East Farms Elementary also was hit sometime between Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. It was also painted with anarchist symbols and swastikas. One lone anarchy sign the size of a small fist remained on the elementary school’s walls Tuesday afternoon, near the intersection of Chase Road and Rowan Street.

The school custodian called Crime Check, said Cpl. Dave Reagan, Spokane County Sheriff’s spokesman.

McAdams said the school district’s security guard called him at home Sunday, and told him of the second round of graffiti.

No suspects have been identified yet.

“The kids are really upset about it because they really like their school,” McAdam said. I’ve had kids tell me they’d be more than willing to help if they heard anything.”

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
