Becker leads Idaho to sweep

Mandy Becker had 40 assists and 18 digs, and Erin Curtis chipped in 10 kills and seven blocks as Idaho (14-6) swept UC Davis (1-16) in non-conference volleyball action Saturday in Davis, Calif.

•Eastern Washington (14-7, 7-1 Big Sky) extended its home winning streak to five matches with a three-game sweep of visiting Portland State (11-10, 3-5).

•Natalie Danielson had 19 kills and four blocks, and Rebekah Hornor added 10 kills and 46 assists as visiting Whitworth (16-4, 9-3 Northwest Conference) defeated Lewis & Clark (3-15, 2-10) in four games in Portland.

•Kelly Rosin had 13 digs and six blocks, but it wasn’t enough as Washington State (3-19, 0-9 Pac-10) was swept by visiting California (11-7, 6-3).

•CC Spokane (8-1 NWAACC) defeated visiting Treasure Valley (3-6) in four games behind 52 assists, 12 digs and five blocks from Korissa Clevish.

•Freshman Christal Morrison had 17 kills to lead top-ranked Washington (17-0, 9-0 Pac-10) to a 3-0 home win over No. 11 Stanford (15-4, 7-2) in Seattle.

Women’s soccer

Lauren Nay scored off an assist from Tondi Sperline in the 87th minute to earn CC Spokane (9-1-1 NWAACC) a 4-4 tie with Treasure Valley (5-5-2) in Ontario, Ore.

•Brenna Hindman had a hat trick to lead Willamette (8-5-2, 6-4-1 Northwest Conference) to a home blowout of Whitworth (10-4-1, 9-2-1) 5-1.

Men’s soccer

Jonathan Carlson scored in the 67th minute to lift Whitworth (11-2-1, 8-1-1 Northwest Conference) to a 1-0 home win over Willamette (2-11-2, 2-8).

•Chris Smith scored five goals as visiting CC Spokane (6-1-4 NWAACC) routed Treasure Valley (4-7-1) 10-1 in Ontario, Ore.

Golf

Washington State’s Anastasia Kostina, competing for Russia, finished eighth at the Women’s World Amateur Team Championships in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Cross country

CC Spokane’s men took top honors at the Lewis-Clark State College Open at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston.

Kyle Anderson led the Sasquatch, finishing in 14th place.

Teona Perkins finished 13th for CC Spokane’s women, who finished fourth overall.

Swimming

In Idaho’s first varsity swimming event since 1985, the Vandals fell at home to San Jose State 112-93.
