Letter writers ‘right on’ with M’s

The Spokesman-Review

I thoroughly agree with the letters submitted by both Wm. J. Hiatt (“M’s need new broadcasters”) and Joyce Henry (“Mariners’ GM should go, too”) on Oct. 10 regarding the Mariners.

Hiatt has it right, and his letter is not the first to appear here in regards to Ron Fairly. I find Fairly’s constant “yammering” as a distraction, but I grimace every time I hear him say with his great wisdom that the Mariners pitchers “need to keep the ball down” to be effective. This utterance comes all through the game.

I also agree with Henry that Bob Melvin was not the cause of this past disastrous season. He was also treated in a shoddy manner when management told him his contract would be renewed for next season, and then a few days later they fired him.

Melvin, with his mild demeanor, would be an advantage for the young players coming up next year. Those players do not need a “Sweet Lou” in their future.
