The Spokesman-Review

Sophomore Kirsten Bafus scored a pair of second-half goals Wednesday to lift fifth-seeded Ferris to a 3-2 win at No. 4 Mead in a loser-out opener of the District 8 4A girls soccer tournament.

Alex Allred added one goal and one assist, and Aly Spear had two assists for the Saxons (12-3), who also defeated Mead by one goal during the Greater Spokane League season.

Ferris led 2-0 when Kati Bronson of Mead (10-5) scored on a penalty kick at 60 minutes. Six minutes later, Bafus scored her second goal.

Ferris will travel to University at 4 p.m. Friday for another loser-out district match.

In another opener, Tonya Schnibbe powered for three goals and one assist to lead third-seeded U-Hi (13-3) to a 4-1 win over visiting Lewis and Clark. Alex Marquard scored the Titans’ first goal, after Schnibbe’s shot bounced off the keeper. Maggie Yates scored for the Tigers (9-7).
