St. George’s, Freeman display depth

PATEROS, Wash. – Freeman and St. George’s qualified both boys and girls squads for next week’s State 1A/B cross country championships in Pasco.

Freeman’s boys finished second to Newport in the District 6/7 1A race at Alta Lake State Park Friday while the girls claimed third behind St. George’s and Odessa in the 1A/B race. The St. George’s boys were third in the boys Class B district final.

Newport won the 1A boys crown by claiming the top three individual places. Tony Thelin turned in the fastest time, covering the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 59 seconds.

Reardan also finished 1-2-3 in capturing the boys B crown, scoring 34 points with five runners placing in the top 20. Brian McNeill claimed top honors, crossing in 17:20, ahead of teammate Brad Serdar (17:23).

St. George’s edged Odessa 69-72 to win the combined 1A/B girls race. Freeman was third with 79 and Lake Roosevelt claimed the fourth and final state berth with 112.

Sadie Bjornsen, from Liberty Bell, won the individual title in 18:53 for 3 miles. St. George’s Cordelia Revells was second in 19:34.

The top 10 individuals in each of the boys district races qualified for the state meet. The top 20 girls qualified for the State 1A/B finals.
