GU disappoints dad, sons

The Spokesman-Review

For the past three years, my now 6- and 4-year-old sons and I would attend the annual Gonzaga (men’s basketball) open scrimmage. It was something we all looked forward to. We called it a “guy day out.” We would chant “G –O- N- Z –A- G- A” on the way to the Kennel. It was a great opportunity for my boys to experience the magic of Gonzaga basketball and meet the “giants” afterward for autographs.

I was disappointed to see that this years’ “open” scrimmage was only for season ticket holders and students. I was especially disappointed when I saw a picture from The Spokesman-Review of many empty seats in the stands. I guess some of the season ticket holders don’t realize how lucky they are.

We will still follow the Zags and cheer them on from the television, however the “guy day out” will have to change. Like the slogan goes, “It’s a great time to be an Eagle.”
