10 Vancouver teens arrested in racial attack

Associated Press

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 10 teenagers believed to have taken part in what authorities are calling a racially motivated attack on two black teens earlier this summer.

Most of those arrested are current or former Evergreen High School students in Vancouver.

A detective in charge of the investigation said additional arrests are possible.

Detective John Visser said a group of male teens, almost all of them white, called the two black teens the “n-word” at least a dozen times before chasing them down and assaulting them on July 2.

Nelson Norman, 18, of San Jose, Calif., was beaten, kicked and robbed of his wallet, stereo and other possessions. He had to be treated for a bruised kidney, scrapes and bruises.

The 15-year-old, Jermeljervonta Anderson, 15, of Vancouver, was treated for an injured foot that was run over by a car driven by one of the assailants, his mother told the (Vancouver) Columbian newspaper.
