Columbia rolls over Prescott in 40-0 win

The Lions roared.

Columbia rolled past visiting Prescott Saturday afternoon, posting a 40-0 shutout.

Nick Kegel spearheaded the Lions’ effort, connecting on 7 of 9 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns and added a fourth score on a 55-yard run in the first quarter.

Columbia piled up 435 yards of total offense, with running back Miles St. John contributing 90 yards on 10 carries and scoring a second-quarter touchdown.

In other games, Curlew was forced to forfeit its game with Inchelium because it did not have enough eligible players… Colton saw its lead cut to 28-22 at the start of the fourth quarter against Wellpinit on a 37-yard, Tiny Moses interception return, but responded with 22 fourth-quarter points to produce a 50-22 victory. Kyle Kelly completed 17 of 25 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns.

Girls soccer

Lindsay Hood and Krystal McCarthy each scored first-half goals as West Valley took a 2-0 first half lead and held on for a 2-1 nonleague win over Deer Park… Mt. Spokane scored a 5-0 win at Ferndale. No details were available.

Volleyball

Gonzaga Prep needed four games to dispose of visiting Bellarmine Prep, 28-26, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20. Setter Elizabeth Hardan passed out 29 assists and hitter Rachael Nicholas put down 11 kills. Kelly Mastor added a pair of aces and seven blocks for the Bullpups.

Idaho Girls soccer

Coeur d’Alene won a pair of matches Saturday, downing Mountain View and McCall by identical 2-0 scores.

Kristie Aston scored a pair of first-half goals two minutes apart to beat Mountain View in a noon game, then came back in the 5:30 p.m. nightcap to set up the winning goal against McCall, feeding Jamie Myers midway through the second half. Five minutes later, Tayni Griffitts took a pass from Courtney Walker and scored the final goal of the day.

Valerie Nelson earned a pair of shutouts in goal for the Vikings.

In other games: Jessy Cawley scored in the 54th minute of play to lift the Lewiston JV past St. Maries.

Boys soccer

Mountain View staked Coeur d’Alene to a 1-0 lead on a penalty shot a minute into the match, then roared back to take a 4-2 victory … Brett Payne scored twice as St. Maries stopped the Lewiston JV 3-0.

Volleyball

Amanda Corning had seven aces and six kills to lead Priest River past Cusick 25-10, 25-12, 25-21. Lisa Barber had seven aces as well, and Calli Turner added a trio of blocks.
