Colorado State sweeps Gonzaga

Tess Rogers led a trio of Colorado State (5-1) players into double digit kills with a match-high 17 kills on 33 attacks as the visiting Rams defeated Gonzaga (1-4) in 3-0 sweep Thursday night at Martin Centre.

Katie Shirley-Cahoon, a 2000 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High, followed Rogers with 12 kills for the 10th-ranked Rams.

Christina Davis led the Bulldogs with 11 kills and Jessica Herrera added 16 digs.

•Ogonna Nnamani had 15 kills to lead 12th-ranked Stanford (3-1) to a 3-0 win over Eastern Washington (0-4) to open the Stanford Invitational at Stanford, Calif.

The Eagles, led by Deanna Albers and Lizzy Mellor with eight kills apiece, face San Francisco tonight and Stanford plays Penn State.

Men’s soccer

Todd Sabrowski scored a second-half goal and added a pair of assists to lead Whitworth (2-1) to a 4-1 victory over Evergreen State (1-2) in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon.

Whitworth’s third goal of the second half came when Sabrowski assisted Sean Lambrecht at 86 minutes.

Lambrecht also scored the Pirates’ first goal when he slid to knock in a short pass from Jonathan Carlson into the lower right corner.
