Explorer Scouts win regionals

The Explorer Scout Post, sponsored by the Spokane Police Department, took first place overall at a recent regional competition in Las Vegas.

The competition included 150 posts from the western United States. They were tested in five categories relating to everyday issues on the job.

The 16-member Spokane Post placed in the top five in all categories. It took first place in misdemeanor traffic stop, second in field interview, third in crime scene investigation, fourth in traffic collision investigation and fifth in responding to a loud music call.

• Several area residents recently won outstanding presentation recognition at the seventh annual Student Research and Creative Works Symposium at Eastern Washington University:

Staci Hollingsworth is a junior majoring in psychology. She is the daughter of Vicki and Rusty Price of Spokane and a 1993 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

Jen Ciollo is a junior majoring in psychology. She is the daughter of Linda and Earl Davis of Spokane Valley and a 1995 graduate of Central Valley High School.

Keirsten Snover of Cheney is a senior majoring in anthropology. She is a 1994 graduate of Williamsville, N.Y., North High School.

• Many residents of Eastern Washington graduated from North Idaho College in the spring.

• Jennifer Bird-Cooper has graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in early elementary education. She is the daughter of Keith and Sheri Bird of Spokane, and a 2001 graduate of Mead High School.

• ITT Technical Institute of Spokane recently announced local graduates.

Adrienne Hardt of Rockford has graduated with an associate of applied science in information technology multimedia.

Brian Thompson and Clinton Timmermans, both of Spokane, have graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in technical project management for electronic commerce.

• Melissa Watson has graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Arts in international political economy. She is the daughter of James and Sharman Watson and is a 2000 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

• The following Spokane residents were among the 100 graduates to receive master’s degrees from Whitworth College in May.
