SCOPE group welcomes deputy, canine partner

The Spokesman-Review

Ever wonder how police dogs are trained and used by law enforcement officers?

West Valley SCOPE will hold an information session next Thursday to explain it.

“There are so many things they can do,” SCOPE volunteer Billie Evers said of the K-9 units.

A Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy will demonstrate his canine partner’s skills at the meeting.

Evers encouraged people to attend to learn and to become more involved in public safety. The group holds meetings the fourth Thursday of each month, except in November and December this year.

“We can always use more (SCOPE) members,” she said. “We need to help protect ourselves.”

The event is at 7 p.m. at Millwood Town Hall, 9103 E. Frederick Ave. For more information, call the West Valley SCOPE office at 477-0629 or Evers at 926-0576.
