Worker killed in 60-foot fall at New York museum

NEW YORK – A contractor caulking glass ceiling tiles at the Metropolitan Museum of Art crashed through a panel Friday and plummeted six stories to his death, landing just feet from the entrance to the Temple of Dendur.

Museum officials identified the worker as Martin Keeler, 26.

Keeler was caulking an internal glass ceiling beneath the museum’s roof and 60 feet above the temple floor Friday morning when a 6-by-6-foot panel in the ceiling gave way. It was not clear whether he was standing on the panel when it collapsed.

The death was being investigated as an accident, police said.

The Temple of Dendur, in the museum’s Sackler Wing, was closed to the public after the accident.
