That’s one sweet recipe

Chocoholics, there is a winning recipe from the Spokane Interstate Fair you might want to try.

Ghirardelli Chocolate sponsored this year’s newest recipe contest and Penny Westfall of Medical Lake won the first prize for her Old Fashioned Chocolate Mince Pie.

Spokane’s Virginia Isbelle took second place with her Boozy Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie, and Kathy White, of Spokane, claimed third with Ghirardelli Chocolate Almond Macaroons.

There were four other recipe competitions for prize money:

Katie, 9, created Charlotte’s Web cookies. William, 12, entered his Give a Hoot Cookies.

In the other kids’ competition, 10-year-old Andrew Grimmet was the SPAM kid chef of the fair. The budding cook from Cheney won first place for his SPAM Pizza. Second place went to Andrew Wardell, 11, for SPAM Kabobs. Thirteen-year-old Caitlin Lusarreta, of Spokane, placed third with SPAMtastic Fun Finger Food.

Patricia McDermott of Mead won first prize in the Fleischmann Yeast bread competition. She entered Fellowship Challah Bread. Sandi and Rachael Thomas of Otis Orchards captured second prize for their Nutty Carmel Apple Sweet Rolls. Spokane’s Carol and Marta Nelson placed third with their recipe for Swedish Cardamom Bread.
