Valley man faces second voyeurism charge

Thomas Clouse Staff writer

A Spokane Valley man arrested last week on allegations he filmed two girls while they were showering faces an additional charge after a hearing Tuesday.

Mark Lee Schnettler, 38, was arrested last week on one count of voyeurism and possession of child pornography. His bond was set at $100,000.

After reviewing the case, prosecutors added a second voyeurism charge against Schnettler, who appeared Tuesday before Judge Pro Tem Jim Parkins. After reading the information, Parkins increased the bond to $250,000.

“I find the alleged conduct is an extreme risk to the youth of our community,” Parkins told Schnettler.

According to court documents, Spokane County Sheriff’s Detective David Skogen watched 21 videotapes that were taken as evidence from a room Schnettler had padlocked in his home, in the 11300 block of East Augusta.

In those tapes, Skogen saw clear images of two different females while showering. In one of the tapes, the camera was behind some kind of grate or vent. In another tape, the camera was behind a small opening, and the camera was manipulated to get a better view of the person in the shower, according to court records.

Among the tapes were depictions of children having sex with adults that appeared to have been downloaded from the Internet, court records state.

If Schnettler is able to make the $250,000 bond, he will be ordered to have no contact with either of the females or have access to the Internet.

“I haven’t had access to it in five years,” Schnettler told Parkins, referring to the Internet. He didn’t elaborate.

Parkins wished Schnettler “the best of luck on this matter” and suggested that he make a quick appointment with an attorney.
