Dornan helps NIC shut door on Hawks team that was 19-1

Freshman outside hitter/setter Collese Dornan totaled 11 kills and 18 assists Wednesday night as North Idaho College swept visiting Columbia Basin 30-26, 30-13, 30-20 in non-conference volleyball.

Chanele Larsen added four solo blocks and Jessica Hollan had five block assists for the Cardinals, who outblocked CBCC by a 2-to-1 margin.

NIC hit .679 during its second-game win. The Hawks had won 19 of 20 before being swept.

Men’s soccer

Fidel Angulo scored at 24 and 75 minutes to lead Walla Walla (6-2-1, 2-1) to a 3-1 win over host North Idaho in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges Northeast Division play.

Garga Caserta scored for the Cardinals (5-1-2, 4-1-1), who entered the day in first place.

Women’s soccer

Shelly Ikerd scored twice in the closing minutes to give visiting Walla Walla (6-0, 3-0) a 2-0 win over North Idaho (4-4, 3-3) in NWAACC Northeast Division play.

•Eastern Washington University’s Cyeeta Mott was named Big Sky Conference offensive player of the week.

Cross country

Jan Eitel and Bevin Kennelly of the University of Idaho were both named Big West Conference athletes of the week for their performances in last Saturday’s Sundodger Invitational in Seattle.

Eitel ran the 8,000-meter race in 24 minutes, 46.24 seconds to finish 13th among men’s collegiate runners. Kennelly ran the women’s 6,000 in 21:28.74 to place seventh overall and lead the Vandals to first place.
