Concert will aid food bank, meals-on-wheels

A concert to benefit Second Harvest Inland Northwest and Mid-City Concerns Meals-On-Wheels will be tonight.

“Manna: Music for a Hungry World,” will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington St.

The music lineup will encompass a variety of genres from bluegrass to gospel. Performers include Prairie Flyer; Celtic Nots; the Bethel AME Baptist Choir, directed by Elisha Mitchell; Susan Windham; John Frankhauser; and the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus.

Admission for adults is a $15 donation to the Second Harvest food bank and Mid-City Concerns and by a donation of a nonperishable food item for children.

A raffle will be held during intermission. One free raffle ticket will be given out with each concert ticket. Additional tickets will be available for 50 cents each.

Second annual Harvest Feast

The second annual Harvest Feast, sponsored by the Garfield Lions Club, will be in the cafeteria at the Garfield (Wash.) Middle School Saturday.

The event, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include entertainment by the five-piece show band Vaudeville; the Old-Time Fiddlers; “Fiddlen” Big Al Chidester; cowboy poet Dick Warwick; and Slinky the Clown.

In addition, a show and shine car show will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a handmade quilt will be raffled off.

A meal of smoked German sausage, green beans, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and poorboy rolls with dessert and drink will be available for $8 for adults and $6 for children age 10 and under.

Basketball to benefit Children’s Center

The Harlem Ambassadors will play against 20 Coeur d’Alene residents to benefit the Soroptimist Children’s Center on Friday.

Local players will include Sgt. Christie Wood, Coeur d’Alene Police; Steve Casey, principal of Coeur d’Alene High School; Chuck Love of the Inland Northwest Football League; Stephanie Bennett, director of the Bridge Academy; and Bill Miles, teacher at Lakeland High School.

Game will be in the gym at North Idaho College at 7 p.m.

Tickets in advance are $7 for adults and $6 for students and seniors; tickets will also be available at the door and will be $8 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.

Wacoal Breast Cancer Awareness Weeks

For every Wacoal bra purchased at Nordstrom between next Sunday and Oct. 16, Wacoal will donate $2 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The event is in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed through the month of October.

Need an excuse to eat out?

Beginning next Sunday, you can assist local health programs by eating at an assortment of Inland Northwest restaurants.

Dine Out, a fund-raising event for Inland Northwest Health Services, continues through

Oct. 7.

A different local restaurant will be featured each day and will donate a percentage of its proceeds to INHS.

The money raised will benefit health programs such as the Community Health Education and Resources Center, St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute and Northwest MedStar.

Participating restaurants include Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar, Luigi’s Italian Restaurant, Steam Plant Grill, Herbal Essence Cafe, Longhorn Barbecue, and Catacombs Pub.

Garage sale

Get in one more garage sale before the snow flies and benefit the Lewis and Clark High School Class of 2005 Senior All-nighter.

The sale, to be held at 904 W. Comstock Court, will include furniture, household items, home decor, sports gear, electronics, holiday decorations, collectibles, toys, baby supplies, books, CDs and videos.

The event will be Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
