Truex rides to easy win in Stacker 200

Points leader Martin Truex Jr. bided his time, took the lead with 12 laps to go and drove to an easy victory in the NASCAR Busch series race Saturday at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Del.

The win in the Stacker 200 was the fifth of the year for Truex, tying him with rookie Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle for the most on the circuit. It also was the fifth in the career of Truex and increased his points lead over Busch to 152 after 27 of 34 races.

“Winning at Dover means everything to me,” said Truex, a native of Mayetta, N.J. “I’ve got a lot of fans in the stands.”

Anderson qualifies third

Pro Stock dominator Greg Anderson moved into position to clinch his second consecutive NHRA POWERade Series world championship by qualifying third at the O’Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.

Anderson needs only to win his first round match against rival Kurt Johnson in today’s eliminations to secure the $200,000 season title.

Doug Kalitta, John Force and Jeg Coughlin earned No. 1 qualifying positions at the $1.7 million race, the 19th of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Hmiel wins first Craftsman Truck

Shane Hmiel nipped veteran Todd Bodine heading into the final lap to win the Las Vegas 350 for his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory.

“I run better normally on the short tracks,” Hmiel said. “We came up 20 car positions to win the race.”

In the closing laps, Hmiel said he saw Bodine rounding the turn ahead of him on the 1 1/2 -mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“I run right up there and said, ‘There’s no way I’m not going to win this race,’ ” he said.

He beat Bodine by 1.009 seconds, about three car lengths.

Barrichello takes Chinese GP pole

Rubens Barrichelloearned the pole position for today’s Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, China.

Barrichello was timed in 1 minute, 34.012 seconds on the 3.388-mile circuit.

Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren, who won at Belgium in August, was second at 1:34.178. Jenson Button of BAR-Honda was third in 1:34.295.

Michael Schumacher is placed in 19th out of 20 cars after spinning off the track in qualifying.
