Area players in All-State boys basketball series

Ferris’ Jeremy Templeton and Cheney’s Derek Miller will square off once more during the 31st All-State boys basketball games Friday at KeyArena in Seattle.

Miller is part of a team of Class 3A all-stars who will meet Templeton and the 4A all-stars in the All-State series finale at 2:30 p.m.

Arnold Brown, who coached Medical Lake’s State 2A champions, will be on the Class 1A bench opposite the Cardinals’ Steven Wesley and Lakeside’s Alex Stillar when the 2A team faces the 1A squad at 1 p.m.

In the B game at 11:30 a.m., Gaeb Giddings and Tyler Orestad from Republic, Jake Kragt from Lind-Ritzville, Josh Greer from Northwest Christian, Preston Wynne from Wellpinit, Cameron Kroupa from Curlew and Derek Flock from Tekoa-Oakesdale are on the State team that squares off against the City squad.

The games are sponsored by the Washington Basketball Coaches Association.

Girls basketball

Jami Bjorklund from University scored 12 points Sunday night in the Northwest Shootout that pitted standout Washington high school seniors against their counterparts from Oregon.

Oregon won 80-74, ending a two-year Washington run and tying the series at six wins apiece.

Lewis and Clark’s Briann January also played in the 12th annual game in Portland.

Maria Hassett, a 6-foot-2 post, who like Bjorklund is headed to Gonzaga, had 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Oregon.

Oregon’s boys beat Washington 96-88, a game in which Eastern Washington-bound Brandon Moore from Bethel scored 10 points.

College women’s golf

Whitworth didn’t have a complete team so couldn’t compete for the team title, but Pirates Kelli Parker (184) and Sarah Shogren (187) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the individual competition at the Willamette Invitational Monday in Woodburn, Ore.
