Father, forgive her for she has appeared in ‘Sin’

Jessica Alba didn’t bare all in “Sin City” for a good reason: she didn’t want to answer to her father. “I felt like dancing around with the lasso and chaps was going to be sexy enough,” she says.

“Being nude, for me, would have been distracting, and I couldn’t even conceive of being bottomless: My dad would disown me or something – he’d freak out.”

Alba, the heroine of the TV series “Dark Angel,” stars in “Sin City” alongside Rosario Dawson, Carla Gugino, Jaime King and Brittany Murphy. All show up in various stages of undress.

But Alba defends the film, based on the neo-noir graphic novels by Frank Miller, from accusations that it is misogynistic.

“The women are completely empowered,” she says. “It’s not just women being victimized. It’s everybody.”

Alba, 23, has two more movies coming out in July: “Into the Blue” and “The Fantastic Four,” another film based on a comic book.

Mr. Danke Schoen says ‘au revoir’

Wayne Newton is leaving the Stardust hotel-casino, where he has been performing his famous “Danke Schoen” since 1999.

“The time has come after an incredible six years to move on to new challenges,” said Newton, known as “Mr. Las Vegas.” His last show at the Stardust will be April 20.

The move wasn’t a complete surprise. Newton, 63, has been playing a limited schedule at the Stardust and has been occupied with other obligations, including a USO tour of Iraq and “The Entertainer,” his TV reality show filmed at the competing Hilton hotel-casino.

Another reality check for the Osbournes

Aimee Osbourne, the eldest daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, is undergoing treatment in Los Angeles after having a lump removed from her breast.

A family statement did not reveal whether the lump was cancerous, but said, “We’re sure she’ll make a complete recovery.”

Aimee, 21, had been set to star in a London production of “The Vagina Monologues” this week with her mother, but withdrew. She was the only family member not to appear in the MTV reality show “The Osbournes.”

Now that’s a wealth of support

Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Bono, Tom Hanks and Jamie Foxx are among the stars who’ll appear in an anti-poverty public service announcement Sunday night on ABC and MTV.

Susan Sarandon, Pat Robertson and Sean “P. Diddy” Combs also are among the 33 entertainers, preachers and politicians who will help promote “One: The Campaign to Make Poverty History” and its Web site, www.one.org.

The spot will air at 8:59 p.m., just before “Desperate Housewives” begins on ABC.

Thank you, Baghdad Jane

Another war, another protest from Jane Fonda.

Asked how she felt about the war in Iraq on Wednesday’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” Fonda got a big hand from the audience when she said: “I think the war is wrong. I think it’s a mistake, and I think we that should get out.”

Fonda, promoting her autobiography, “My Life So Far,” said she is the “lightning rod” for the still open wounds of the Vietnam war and feels “sad about that.”
