Kids can get a taste of college this summer at SFCC sessions

SPOKANE FALLS Community College Youth College offers three fun-filled weeks of educational, recreational and entertaining courses designed for boys and girls ages 9 to 13 at SFCC, located at 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive.

Counting pennies on Saturday

Kids for Kids Penny Drive, sponsored by Windermere Real Estate in the Spokane Valley, will take place Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Toys “R” Us parking lot at Sullivan and Broadway. Get a chance to meet Mother Goose, Alice in Wonderland and The White Rabbit, The Cat in the Hat, SpongeBob SquarePants and Spider-Man. Get running start

Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College team up for a Running Start information night April 19, 7 to 8 p.m., in the Lair-Student Center, Building 6, at SCC, 1810 N. Greene St. The program is open to area public high school juniors and seniors, Running Start at SCC and SFCC and allows students to earn community college credits while completing high school academic requirements. Running Start college credits transfer to most four-year colleges and universities in the state, allowing students to begin college with advanced standing, while the community colleges’ lower tuition rate allows families to save on college expenses. Running Start students also can enroll in SCC and SFCC’s professional-technical programs, such as culinary arts, automotive technology, graphic design or environmental sciences, and earn a two-year associate in applied science degree.

At information night, which is free and open to the public, students and parents can meet current Running Start students attending SCC and SFCC to hear firsthand about their college experiences. Running Start counselors/coordinators also will be available to explain how students can enroll in the program. For information, call 434-5162.
