The Spokesman-Review

Casey McDonald homered and drove in three runs and Alex Capaul added a three-run double to lead the Lake City Timberwolves to a 12-1 five-inning victory over the Lakeland Hawks in Inland Empire League baseball action on Thursday in Coeur d’Alene.

Beck Roan went the distance for the Timberwolves (12-1, 7-0), allowing just four hits while striking out four. Lakeland fell to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in league play.

Elsewhere in the IEL, Coeur d’Alene managed just two hits on the day, but one of them was Mark Estrada’s solo home run in the second inning, and the visiting Vikings (9-3, 3-2) turned back the Sandpoint Bulldogs (2-9, 2-7) 4-1.

Softball

Jenna DeLong tossed a complete-game, five-inning one-hitter and visiting Coeur d’Alene (9-4, 3-2) rolled to a 16-0 win over Sandpoint (0-8, 0-7) in Inland Empire League play. The Vikings pushed across 10 runs in the top of the first to put the game out of reach early. … Lake City (11-2, 7-0) scored all of the runs Kellee Jost would need with a pair of first-inning tallies and the Timberwolves cruised to a 6-1 victory over visiting Lakeland (2-7, 1-5) to remain unbeaten in the IEL. Jost, who allowed just four hits in seven innings of work, improved her record to 8-1 on the season.

Washington softball

Samantha Skillingstad, Kim Watson and Lenzy Vlahovich were unhittable in a wild day of Greater Spokane League softball action.

Skillingstad pitched a perfect game and the Shadle Park Highlanders remained in the hunt for the Greater Spokane League regular season softball crown with a 12-0 romp over the visiting Ferris Saxons.

Watson not only pitched a perfect game as the Mead Panthers routed the visiting Lewis and Clark Tigers 14-0, but she was also perfect at the plate, also, doubling twice in a 3-for-3 day with two runs scored.

Vlahovich fired a no-hitter, with 16 of the 21 outs coming via strikeouts, to lead the University Titans to a 7-0 win over the visiting East Valley Knights. Vlahovich’s only blemish was a two-out walk on a full count in the sixth inning.
