Smokey Bear promotes ‘Keep Washington Green’ campaign

Smokey Bear helped promote the “Keep Washington Green” campaign 50 years ago in the Spokane Lilac Parade. “Keep Green” began in Washington state in 1940 as a fire-safety campaign. Pictured here in 1955, Smokey Bear won best noncommercial float in the parade.
