The commander of the Idaho Army National Guard arrived at Forward Operating Base Warrior near Kirkuk, Iraq, Monday for a four-day visit with soldiers of the 116th Brigade Combat Team.

It is the first time Maj. Gen. Larry Lafrenz has visited the brigade since being appointed adjutant general for Idaho in mid-January, according to the brigade’s public affairs office. About half of soldiers of the 116th are from Idaho.

“It’s good to be here,” Lafrenz said as he was greeted at Kirkuk Regional Air Base by Brig. Gen. Alan Gayhart, brigade commander.

During his trip, Lafrenz will visit with each Idaho National Guard unit deployed in Iraq as well as units from Oregon, Montana, Utah, North Dakota, New Jersey and Maryland, according to the public affairs office.
