Identifying coaches votes a BCS topic

Associated Press

PHOENIX – Meeting to begin working out a new ratings formula, Bowl Championship Series delegates concentrated Monday on whether to begin publicly identifying how members of the coaches poll vote.

BCS coordinator and Big 12 Conference commissioner Kevin Weiberg said voting by coaches has taken on greater importance since the Associated Press pulled its poll out of the standings formula. Most of the discussions on the opening day of the three-day conference centered on ways to revise the formula.

Weiberg didn’t expect the meeting to produce a new ratings formula – the BCS has a self-imposed deadline of July 15 to finalize that – but hopes the options will be narrowed.

BCS detractors raised integrity issues last year when the races to determine Nos. 1 and 2, and No. 8 became complicated.
