Kids like Sandberg

The Spokesman-Review

This week my wife and I have the privilege of being visited by our son, his wife and three beautiful children from Katy, Texas. The boys, 7-year-old twins, brought with them their collection of baseball cards.

The coverage of Ryne Sandberg could not have been more fortuitous. These little guys knew all of the stats and the breakfast table discussions were of his career in baseball and how he was able to love the game that has given him so much and his giving in return. Their sister was able to get into the discussion as well with her observations on “doing it the right way.”

Not everyone is a Ryne Sandberg fan, but for these children and their parents and grandparents, what a wonderful example of sportsmanship, caring, love, and passion for something as great as the game of baseball.
