Whose next? The Bulldogs?

The Spokesman-Review

It’s bad enough the NCAA can’t find a surefire way to pick a national college football champion, now they’re forcing schools to become politically correct with their team names or mascots or they’ll be denied postseason play in all NCAA sports.

Once they start outlawing American Indian names, why stop there? Let’s get rid of the Gonzaga Bulldogs for what some say is a vicious breed, the Idaho Vandals for offending Europeans, and Whitman College’s Missionaries for making Jews and Muslims uncomfortable.

Where will it all end? Perhaps down the road, you’ll even have dog lovers wanting to eliminate the Cougars and the same thing with cat lovers going after the Huskies.

The NCAA should stick to regulating college sports on the field or in the arena, not in the court of public opinion. Let colleges make decisions for themselves about mascots and names.
