Motorcycle driver charged with attempting to elude

The Spokesman-Review

A Spokane Valley man faces a felony charge for allegedly trying to ditch police on a motorcycle reported stolen last year.

Police say they arrested Jake Goolie, 29, Monday night after he sped through the residential neighborhoods of Evergreen and Opportunity at speeds approaching 100 mph. Goolie was charged with one felony count of attempting to elude a police vehicle.

The 1993 Suzuki GSX 600, was first spotted eastbound on Riverside Avenue near the headquarters of the Central Valley SCOPE.

Officer Jerad Kiehn had just pulled into the SCOPE parking lot when he noticed the passing motorcycle had no rear lights. When the officer pursued, the driver made a hard turn west onto East Valleyway and accelerated, passing pedestrians at about 100 mph.

Police backed off, fearing bystanders could be injured, but pedestrians pointed Kiehn in the direction of the speeding motorcycle until the officer found the Suzuki beneath the covered entryway of a church on Pines Road.

Goolie was walking away from the area. Police said he admitted fleeing.

A check revealed the motorcycle was stolen last November the 6300 block of North Pittsburg Road.

Now he has a real headache

A Spokane Valley teenager who was pulled over Monday for no license plates was arrested on a narcotics possession charge after police discovered more than keys dangling from his ignition.

Joshua R. Lincoln-Jones, 19, was stopped on Interstate 90 shortly after midnight Monday because Spokane Valley police noticed his Mazda 323 didn’t have license plates. And the plates weren’t the only things absent, according to police. Lincoln-Jones didn’t have a driver’s license, registration or proof of insurance.

As Officer Michael Wall issued a $1,170 infraction notice to Lincoln-Jones, a second officer, Griffin Criswell, arrived and spotted a small pouch dangling from Lincoln-Jones’ keychain.

With the teenager’s permission, Criswell opened the pouch and discovered two Percocet pills, a prescription-only painkiller, and two Lorazepam anti-anxiety pills.

Criswell said Lincoln-Jones reported he took the pills for headaches, but had no prescription. The teenager was booked into Spokane County Jail on a felony count of unlawful possession of a schedule II narcotic.

Man held on meth charges

A 26-year-old Spokane man was charged Monday with possessing methamphetamine.

Alex N. Arnzen-Jones failed to obey a stop sign at Sinto Avenue and Mullan Road. Motorcycle Officer Joe Bonin pulled over Arnzen-Jones moments later. A background check revealed Arnzen-Jones was wanted in Snohomish County for fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance, a felony.

Police then searched Arnzen-Jones and found a bindle of methamphetamine, also a felony.

A clear signal to cops

A transient was arrested Sunday night after police discovered a bag of methamphetamine on the seat of the pickup truck he was driving.

Kyle L. Koontz, 25, was pulled over for failing to signal when turning onto Mullan Road from Mission Avenue. A small baggie of methamphetamine was next to Koontz on the truck seat, according to Spokane Valley police. Koontz allegedly admitted to using the drug a couple of hours earlier.

The Datsun pickup had two different license plates, neither of which belonged to the truck. Police ran a registration and identification search on the truck and discovered it didn’t belong to Koontz. The officers impounded the truck because they couldn’t determine if it was stolen.

Koontz was charged with felony drug possession.
