Treasure bits and pieces

The Spokesman-Review

A crystal clear memory

Last week, I wrote about the strands of crystal beads that I’ve collected and wear quite often. After reading the column, Rita Feldhusen called to say she was reminded of her mother. “My mother had the same kind of beads,” Feldhusen said. “And when I think of her, I see her in that necklace.”

The crystal beads brought another memory as well – the memory of a fragrance, Feldhausen added. “My mother wore the same perfume for years. When I saw the photo of the woman wearing crystals, I thought of my mother, and I smelled ‘Evening in Paris.’ “

Cruising down memory lane

Barbara Root of Spokane called to say she recently wore her own crystal beads for the first time in years. Root was preparing for an Alaskan cruise and wanted to accessorize a beautiful royal blue dress.

When she opened her jewelry box, she spotted the set of crystal jewelry that had been a gift from her mother.

“I didn’t wear the necklace because the neckline of the dress was decorated,” Root said. “But I wore the bracelet and it looked beautiful.”
