At least one vehicle has been burglarized nearly every day for the past three weeks in Post Falls, according to police reports.

The Post Falls Police Department became alarmed after five cases happened between Monday and Tuesday this week, out of a total of 17 cases since Aug. 8, Lt. Greg McLean said Friday.

In one of the five cases, someone attempted to use a debit card that was stolen from a locked vehicle parked in a resident’s garage. The man’s face was caught on camera, giving police their first lead on these incidents, which may be related.

At 1:17 a.m. on Tuesday, the man, who wore a hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses, tried to use a Global Credit Union ATM. There were two other attempts to use the card: one at 3:15 a.m. at the same location, and one at an unknown time and place in Spokane.

In one of the efforts, the person was able to charge $300 on the card. No further details were available Friday.

The majority of the thefts were of cars that were left unlocked, McLean said. Though the burglaries occurred across Post Falls, several were in the Riverside Harbor area.

Among the items that were stolen in the five cases: a $30 pink Victoria’s Secret duffle bag; two hunting knives totaling $185; credit and debit cards; and nearly $3,000 worth of music CDs.

Police are asking anyone with information about the hooded man’s identity to contact the department at (208) 773-3571 or enter an anonymous tip at www.postfallspolice.com.
